<< The origin and meaning of the names of K-Pop groups and idols
This is an extension of the article explaining the origin and meaning of the names of ten of the most popular K-Pop groups, which you can read about here. The same format will be used in this guide, which will explain the meaning of more names, focusing on boy groups. This is a work in progress, and more artists will be added over time. The artists here reflect the ones included in the introductory guide to K-Pop co-ed groups, but with sub-units listed together with their group. All artists are listed in alphabetical order.
List of artists
Kard
Their name is linked with the concept of playing cards, with each member represented by a type of card. Kard comes from taking letters from these cards, and stands for King (BM), Ace (J.Seph), jokeR (Somin), & hiDden (Jiwoo). For this reason, their name was originally stylized as K.A.R.D, before being simplified to Kard.
Members:
- J.Seph – from Joseph, an English name that was given to him by his sister.
- BM – stands for “Big Matthew”, which reflects his large and muscular physical stature, from his real name: Matthew Kim.
- Somin – real name: Jeon Somin.
- Jiwoo – real name: Jeon Jiwoo.
