Val di Non and Val di Sole

The northwestern part of Trentino features two important valleys: Val di Non and Val di Sole. These two valleys are crossed by the Noce river, and are sometimes known together as Valli del Noce. Both valleys have a rich history and culture, and feature several historic landmarks among the beautiful mountains.

Val di Non

Val di Non is a valley in Trentino, located north of Trento and crossed by the Noce stream. The most important town in Val di Non is Cles, located near Lake Santa Giustina at the center of the valley. The area was inhabited since ancient times and it is known for its various medieval castles and beautiful landscape, but it is also famous for the production of apples.

✪ Sanctuary of San Romedio

The Sanctuary of San Romedio is a religious complex located among the mountains of Val di Non, near the town of Sanzeno, but in the municipality of Predaia. The sanctuary can be reached from Sanzeno with a pathway that goes through the beautiful environment. The complex is made of five churches built between the 11th and 20th century on the steep rocks, and it is a popular pilgrimage site.

Rhaetian Museum

The Rhaetian Museum (Museo Retico) is an exhibition on the history and archaeology of Val di Non. The collection focuses mostly on the prehistoric Rhaetian settlement, but it hosts finding spanning from the Paleolithic to the Early Middle Ages. The pathway to the Sanctuary of San Romedio begins near the museum.

Palazzo Assessorile

Palazzo Assessorile is a medieval palace in the center of Cles, once residence of noble families and seat of the local government. It features various ancient frescoes and it is now used to host exhibitions.

Cles Castle

The Cles Castle is a medieval castle located on a hill overlooking Cles and Lake Santa Giustina. Its current structure dates from the 16th century, when the previous castle was restored and expanded, turning it into a fortified palace.

Thun Castle

The Thun Castle is a medieval fortified palace located near Vigo di Ton. Once the residence of the noble Thun family, who restored a previous fortress, the Thun Castle has been recently restored and it is now one of the best preserved castles in Trentino. Today it serves as a museum.

Val di Sole

Val di Sole is a narrow valley among the mountains of northwestern Trentino. It is crossed by the Noce river that flows east into the nearby Val di Non. To the west, the valley closes toward the Tonale Pass, which crosses into Lombardy. The main town in Val di Sole is Malé.

Museo della Civiltà Solandra

Museo della Civiltà Solandra is an ethnographic museum in Malé focused on the traditional culture of Val di Sole. The museum showcases a collection of historic objects and exhibitions on local history.
