This place was fortified in ancient times, while the current structure was erected by the Normans in the 12th century, and in the Late Middle Ages it was one of the most famous and important castles in Italy. After being used as a prison, it was turned into a tourist attraction in the 20th century, and it is now the main landmark of Enna. The castle features various well preserved fortifications. Next to the castle is the <strong>Rocca di Cerere<\/strong>, a rock formation that once hosted an ancient temple. The complex includes a monumental entrance, a large audience hall, and various other rooms. The villa is best known for its huge series of elaborate mosaics, which are among the best preserved of their kind. These are regarded as the largest, richest, and most varied collection of Roman mosaics ever found.
